Made the jump to a strategy/finance role at a tech company. Total comp is roughly a wash once you squint at the RSUs. But I took a walk at 2pm on a Tuesday last week, in the sun, with no phone buzzing, and I nearly cried. The hedonic adjustment is real and I'm not going back.
"Nearly cried on a Tuesday walk" is the most powerful comp data point in this entire forum and it's not even a number.
The RSU wash is the part people miss when they say you "took a pay cut." Liquid-ish equity plus daylight is not a pay cut, it's a rebalance.
Made the same jump. Warn the next person: tech has its own grind seasons. The difference is you can see the sun during them. That difference is everything.
Comp, exits, burnout, and the parts of the job that never made it into the offer letter.
